Another interesting line:

今天的羊肉不错

..because of the “今天”

..here in Oz, I would only ever expect to hear this kind of line in a butchers, or a restaurant [sounds like a sales pitch] . I can't imagine hearing this in someone's home [unless they were joking around and feigning to be serving in a restaurant]. Is this common to talk like this in this scenario? I guess he could almost be echoing what the butcher said and he's quite happy with his purchase.

this line:

鱼可是你伯母的拿手菜

is interesting for a couple of reasons. Firstly it is translated as:

Fish is actually my speciality

I presume "my" is a translation error. Isn't this still the girls father speaking and he's referring to his wife, right?【 so shouldn't it be "fish is actually your bomu's specialty"?] But what is more interesting is that he would say "你伯母"...not just for omitting the 的 and thus implying this boyfriend is already part of the family I guess, but also because he is himself continuing the 伯 thing and suggesting the 你 [ I guess what I'm trying to say, is it almost sounds like it's gone beyond a polite form of address to be an actual relationship ].

what I was trying to figure out is how he detected the zhima they'd tried to surreptitiously slip inside the yangrou . I figured that as that line used 里 it must be stuffed in a pocket inside the meat. I see now from the translation of "on" that I guess 里 just means "in" the dish in general and not specifically inside the meat. I guess the girls folks weren't as sneaky as they thought.

呵呵, yeah. It was more of an observation than a problem though. I like 了 and like it thrown in for good measure. It would feel strange without it, kinda incomplete, hehe.

This sentence is interesting:

作业完成

完成 incicating you've completed something and 了 for completed action....thus 完成了 ..you've completed completing something [ in this case you've completed completing your homework...perhaps the kid should get bonus brownie points]

Why does Lily want the Expo to end?

Can anyone confirm this rumour that the expo will be extended 3 months? [ and how to say that in Chinese?]
