February 25, 2011 at 5:38 AMpretz mate,
I reckon this is where you need to start ditching the popups where possible....they're just a guide. Sure it means unable to find a wife, but wife is implied and not actually stated in that expression [as qu is the verb used for selecting/finding a wife], so it doesn't seem to be redundant to follow it with a word for wife. I guess the other thing is you can likely qu other things..it just means fetch etc. The usual caveat of just going with gut feeling here for what it's worth.

I just either download to my computer and listen via windows media player or download to my ipod and listen on the move. Thanks for the Audacity tip mate. Yeah, this actually came up as a way to catch those hard to get bits in the transcripts group. I think it's a good tip which would likely work and may suit some styles of learning well but personally I've always resisted it as I fear I would find it too much of a crutch and I want to practice listening to natural speed as much as possible and I'd rather extrapolate fill in the gaps from context [hehe, or ask others and then relisten and try again to hear at natural speed]. In this case it was what I thought I heard so I guess it was more of a grammar question in the end. But whoever finds using audacity helpful I say go for it and your tip will have helped them. Cheers mate :)

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page:
http://chinesepod.com/community/team
..you will see the 10 members who have left over the years [you will see Ken amongst them] and a greater number of current staff members [ it doesn't list the behind the scenes staff including the actors]. I guess every organisation has staff turnover right? Jenny is still around but she's just had a baby so naturally her hands are probably pretty full. If by "new newbie" you mean new newbie lessons, they were stopped just over a year ago as it was deemed that after 326 lessons pretty much all the language you could need at that level was covered, and folk tend to move on to higher levels well and truly before doing all 326 lessons...something along those lines.

February 24, 2011 at 12:31 PMhaha, thanks. Once I hit upon it it seemed obvious. I'm impressed that you're reading it. haha, 小人国..very Chinese...straight to the point.
金发姑娘...fair enough
三只熊...well I wasn't looking anything up, hehe, but I'm surprised the mw is 只 as I think of that as being for small animals, not bears.
Hey that was fun mate. I'm up for that sort of thing. I did try and start a trivia group here:
http://chinesepod.com/community/groups/view/trivia-%E5%B0%8F%E8%8A%82-920
but alas, it never got off the ground. Guess I'm just about the only big kid around here, hehe. :)

February 24, 2011 at 12:16 PMAmber left a couple of years ago. I think you'll find there's no direct translation, so you can select your own name. Here's a website that can help:

安详 ānxiáng means serene

February 25, 2011 at 8:17 AMhaha, I won't be speeding up any zhongwen I can assure you..there's more than enough challenge for me in the lessons...I'm just happy if I can follow native speed. [not that I wouldn't take on any challenge once just for the heck of it]
"You can cut out the portions you already know and repeat those areas which you want to be able to emphasize."
..sounds like a good idea for the really conscientious but I'm way too lazy for that and just like to keep moving on to the next lesson. Sounds like good advice again for the motivated mate so I'm sure there are those out there that will benefit from this advice also. Cheers :)
