Yes you can. In the advanced lesson of the same name, it gives a couple of other examples...美国通。。old America hand ,电脑通...old computer hand ,游戏通。。old game hand

I can't imagine myself being at a stage where being called a zhongguotong will be warranted so "modesty" will come easily if ever I was to get called that, but if ever there was a zhongguotong surely it is John, so it was amusing to see him put on the spot and get out of it masterfully, hehe. Very well done, haha. Moving right along now to things that matter....

Hey this is interesting...having a topic covered in a recent Advanced lesson followed shortly after by it being covered in an Ellie lesson. I don't see the step up or step down thing going on here, but rather I guess such an intersting topic culturally was too good to have it not covered at both ends of the level spectrum to reach as many poddies as possible. Good topic to do it with.

I guess this has sorta happened before?...this close together and the exact topic?

I was trying to say:

oh, young man, you can year the grasshopper at your feet [ your 听错 or cricket was close enough for a pass] . ok, when you can snatch the pebble from my hand it will be time for you to leave.

噢,年轻男人,你会听蚂蚱在你的足。好,等你还会从我手里抢卵石,这会是你离开的时候了

关于“吃了炸药”。。Connies 解释:

“乱骂人说话难听”

。。很清楚,可是这个在2m12s:

"and it means he's in a really bad mood"

RJ'sRCR.....I like it...yes, let's go with that mate.

I'm looking forward to more senior moments ;)

[btw, of course I'm loathe to point out your senior moment, but in the spirit of education it was a case of mistaking "xiang" for "shang", ..or are you going to tell me that living in the land down under I have my syntax back to front as well?, hehe]
