...while I know that in the end you'll be right about this and part of me wants to agree, I can't help but question it a bit [or at least explore it] for a couple of reasons. No, hang on, what I was about to say, you might be saying too...I'm not sure. I was going to say that if it's an afterthought, then that almost tends to suggest that something else [other than the financial issue] was being thought of when it was saying chibuxiao . The other bit that causes question is the use of 也...also. I guess it could be a language difference in the use of this meaning. Also tends to make you think of some additional factor. However, I suppose it could be adding an additional point in the financial comment. Firstly it's expensive at that time of year, and also it's not like we're moneybags [and maybe this is what you're saying about it being an afterthought...adding in the not rich bit..just adding to the case against why it would be hard to bear]. Possibly a little redundant and I don't think we'd use also like that in English, but maybe that's the gist.
