August 21, 2011 at 5:17 AMThanks RJ. I have seen that wiki article before and I'm also aware of that book though I haven't read it. I was looking for something more akin to a free online dictionary for slang...not something I'd sit down and read like a book or wiki article, but something to refer to if you struck slang.
thanks Zhourui. ditto. You've both mentioned good sites though.

August 19, 2011 at 5:16 AM"deference to someone else's wishes or opinions"
..nicely put Greg. Yeah, I kinda picked up on that with the tinghua instruction a parent would give to a child. I was just thinking earlier how this ting is closer to "listen" than "hear"...yeah, "I'll listen to you" is a good translation.

August 19, 2011 at 5:14 AMthanks Jenny :)
I guess I fell into the old trap of looking for something that was closer in meaning to the English "I hear you", when of course the simple "wo mingbai ni de yisi" conveys the general message. Gotta forget English, think Chinese.

August 18, 2011 at 9:37 AMInteresting. Of course horses would have been much more talked about pre cars, but interesting that google is picking up on this. There must be a lot of old stuff uploaded I guess.

August 21, 2011 at 5:32 AMJenny, I could be wrong, but I think when you remove a post everything below it in that subthread also gets removed. So if you were to remove a double posting, it might work better if the lowest [2nd] post was the one removed. But of course if there have been other posts in the subthread subsequent to the double post they would be removed also in which case I'd be inclined to leave accidental double posts. IHTH :)
