May 24, 2013 at 2:19 AMTranslating 它 as "he" or "she" isn't necessarily wrong; it depends on the context. In English, we often refer to animals, especially pets, anthropomorphically with a "he" or a "she". However, in written Chinese non-human beings, except for gods, are always referred to with a 它, as an "it". So it really depends on how much you want the translation to reflect the thinking in the Chinese.
All that being said, since the context is unknown, I think that "it" is a better translation here for 它. The example has been changed!

May 9, 2013 at 3:12 AMThe phrase could literally be translated as "[the apartment] has high investment value", but I felt that this sounded a bit awkward in English. As this is an intermediate lesson, I thought it was okay to stray a bit from the literal meaning of the text.

April 28, 2013 at 1:42 AMYou're right. "Let's raise a puppy" sounds quite awkward. However, I think that "Let's keep a puppy" doesn't sound very natural either. In English we'd probably just say "Let's get a puppy", right?
As this is an elementary lesson, I went with the more literal translation here (despite its awkwardness) so that what the Chinese is doing would be more clear.

You're right, it's more likely that this sentence is referring to many friends, as opposed to one friend repeatedly requesting your presence or having more than one marriage at once!
