I like the way you and Jiaojie present the poem. I find it very natural and 'easy'. And the poem made me remember the day when I left my mother behind to go to China. Thank you, Pete!

January 17, 2009 at 6:51 AM最近我也遇到过这个问题，在自己和朋友家里，如果父亲或母亲老了，怎么办，怎么处理些生活问题。我在德国看，敬老院有不同的 (好的也有，不过当然这也是钱的问题)。老年人的家里情况和身体和精神情况也不是都一样。她(他)们的孩子情况也不一样吧。比如，有的老年人，虽然老，但是还比较健康，有的喜欢比较独立生活，觉得敬老院帮她(他)们有这个机会。不想住敬老院的人也有。这个问题可能不容易和个个家里和社会环境分开看。老年生活也可能会有很长的时间，"老" 的定义是什么，60岁? 80岁?

I remember once in a Chinese hospital that there was no protection belt or shirt for me when I had the x-ray examination. This was many years ago. I don't know whether this was an exception or how people think about that now?

December 10, 2008 at 12:33 PMI like some coffee every day, if possible, and I don't like instant coffee so much. So I buy ground coffee and the way I prepare it is: I put the coffee powder into my cup, hot water onto it, wait some minutes, stir and the coffee is ready. The powder will stay more or less on the ground. When looking for Chinese coffee, I recently tried ground coffee from Yunnan province. I would like to buy it again, but this coffee is hard for me to be found in the shops. Nice topic, coffee in China!

November 27, 2008 at 1:55 AMOnce I lost the shoe on my left foot in the Beijing subway when I tried to get off the train because it was so crowded and people pushed me from all sides and stepped onto my feet. After I managed to get off I just hobbled out of the subway station to find the next store where I bought a new pair of shoes. Now I try to avoid being in a crown where it not possible even to keep some centimeters between each other, which of course is not always possible. I think it is not necessarily a contradiction to adjust on one hand to the habits and at the same time to try to make things getting better. I see a lot of people in China, whether Chinese or not, also don’t like to stand in a crowd and be pushed.

November 26, 2008 at 1:13 AMWhat would happen if the owner of the house or the people who are responsible for the house cleaning would leave a note at the main door not to put the garbage in front of the neighbours door, do you think that this would be accepted by the old ladies more easily? Would they ever read the note?

November 21, 2008 at 4:55 PM我对"讲义气"的感觉有点矛盾。可能也不完全理解义气和别的很好的友谊的区别在哪。所以我问以下，义气是不是常常跟"不好的"情况练起来的, 比如遇到压力或不公平的时候?
在今天的对话里谈起了"水湖"，你们同学也提了"三国演义"。这有点让我想起英国的 Robin Hood (罗宾汉?) 的故事来。我小的时候看过电影 (忘了是谁排的, 内容大概也忘了)，后来比较喜欢我记得那电影里头的一种义气和公平感。
不过，大了就觉得，辛亏现在的社会不一样。如果现在发生今天的棵讲的这么一个事情: 老板突然把你给开除了，薪水也不给，一般就没必要用手打起来。除非你的工作条件本来不是比较"黑"的，这问题一般应该通冷静点儿的方法或通过法律能解决。虽然不是所有问题能解决，看来我还是比较相信法律和公共机制的用处，它有时是一个可以保护人的东西。我今天学的义气例子，对我是太过分了的友谊。

Since we start to have closer looks to some single aspects here, the topic gets more and more interesting to me. And this happens via internet, not in a classroom, I'm really impressed!
