Blank page after comment

Just wondering if anyone else is having my problem. Sometimes after posting a comment, I am sent to an entirely blank page. I need to 'go back', and then refresh the page to see my comment. I would say it happens about 10% of the time.

Yeah I know Tal. I just took advantage of what I thought was another excuse to say that I wouldn't apply deductive reasoning to the process of figuring out Chinese grammar, and don't mind people like Mr T not seeing things my way, hehe.

Seems as if it's working now, given your new avatar. We've not had other reports of problems so long as the avatar met the normal standards, though we'll keep an eye out and see if more occur and if we can find a pattern between them.

Ha ha, that wasn't aimed at anyone in particular of course zhen, just me having fun with Photoshop. I've seen Michio Kaku on TV quite a bit over the last few years actually, I think he's another scientist who likes being in front of the camera. I find him much more bearable than the annoyingly young, photogenic, and ever-so-pleased-with-himself Brian Cox actually, but then maybe I'm just jealous! lol

Ah thanks for that Baba. That's BBC I guess.

Sorry Godfrey for hijacking. (I enjoyed The A(theist)-Team though, even the part with Mr T taunting me for being a fool)

He was recently on a show called "Visions of the Future" hosted by a Japanese American theoretical physicist and futurist Dr Michio Kaku..a very interesting series of doco's I can highly recommend.

smiley emoticons He's the latest in the line of scientists who want to be TV personalities. He's never off the box recently it seems. He has a 'cute' Manchester accent which I have weakly parodied.

(I really don't Tal! Honestly welcoming the changes.) And I really don't want Godfrey to think I'm attacking the avatar and withdraw it.

But I'm ashamed to say I don't know who Brian Cox is ... someone I ought to know, I guess. I'll go look him up. 不好意思,好像我令你失望吧!

Ah Mr T (I mean no irony or sarcasm)--seeing even just two of all those identities converge is strangely gratifying to me. It's like a reunion of long-lost siblings; things made right, or better than before anyway.

And almost any (decent) avatar whether it's this photo or something else is welcome imo, and nicer than the grey default CPod logo.

A response to my most recent issue (above) would be appreciated.

The problem has not reoccurred over the weekend (although I haven't posted much).

But now I have another issue - I cannot change my avatar.

I tried 2 different photos, and each gave the same result: It said 'success' with a big red cross next to that word. That didn't make any sense to me. After this, and after hitting 'save', the avatar had not changed.

The photos were both JPGs, and both 70k, under your 120k limit.

Come to think of it, why isn't there an option to delete an avatar altogether?

I'll set up my own test-account. Next time it happens, I'll see if it also happens with the other account. Then we might know for sure whether it is my account or my connection.

Hmm... shouldn't be the case.

I've made a couple of test accounts with various special characters in the username, and I still can't make it happen. Very strange...

I think it happened only a couple of times over the weekend.

Just a thought - could it be caused by having CPod open at work and at home simultaneously?

Thanks for the bump :) We're looking into the issue. The only thing we can think of is the underscore in your username... but that doesn't make much sense, since lots of users have underscores and they're not reporting in issues. Still happening ~70% of the time?

I posted this at the very start of the weekend, so I'm just bumping it so it doesn't get lost.

Sorry, this one somehow passed me by.

1. I actually have no idea what operating system I have. How do you check that?

2. I'm using Firefox. But the problem happened at work today, and I think they use Explorer. Based on this, I'd say the problem has to do with my account.

3. My original post here is dated July 14, so I assume that I first noticed the problem in the first half of July.

(Edit: Actually, I've just remembered where I first noticed it. See the thread here: http://chinesepod.com/community/conversations/post/9687

The Transcripts With Tal group was corrupted in some way for a few days. I made a number of posts in that group while it was having problems, and this was when & where I first started having this problem. The problem has persisted and got worse despite the issue with that group being fixed long ago.)

go_manly,

Neither our tech team nor I can get this to happen. We're thinking it might be an unfortunate confluence of factors (connection speed, browser, server load, maybe other things, we're not sure). To help narrow it down, the tech team asked for the following information:

1. Operating system version

2. Browser type and version

3. If possible, when the problem started happening (so we can search for changes to the commenting code around that time that might have caused it).

Thanks, and sorry again about the issue.

Hmm... seems like the controller somehow isn't forwarding you back to the comment page after saving the comment. I'll get the tech team to look into it today.

I just made 4 test posts, and it seemed to work fine for me. Maybe there's something going on with your internet connection?

Next time it happens, can you copy the URL of the blank page you're being sent to? Might help us deduce what is happening when you're being sent off into the ether.

I thought that may be the case. But I make posts on other sites, and this is the only site that is affected. I guess the problem could have started at about the same time I changed to a new virus program (Vipre). Would there be any setting there which could be causing this?

(The problem never occurs when I reply to a comment, only when I write a new comment of my own. Similarly, the CPod page only refreshes itself after a new comment is added, not after a reply is added. So I'm guessing its a refresh problem.)

This is still happening. But now it happens probably 70% of the time I post a comment. It doesn't happen for anyone else?
