Hehe, cool, thanks wei1xiao4:). I find I keep coming back to the Chinesepod site expecting to find some updated pictures of the crew there now, or anything personal like that, but couldn't really find much:( There is even the picture of Aric as a host still, haha. I really miss Eileen too, she is such a swell person, anyone out there who has ever written to chinesepod@gmail.com has probably gotten a response from her.
I'm still learning Chinese here, but I think my level is slipping downwards, embarrasingly enough. I'll be taking Chinese lessons at university next year though, and I have to write an entrance exam to see which level I am, yikes! better keep practicing so I don't end up too low....

Colleen, I'm so glad you are still listening. We miss you and wish you all the best! Even though you don't know us, we consider you an old friend! You will always be part of Chinesepod, just like the old Saturday Night Live characters will always be recognized as part of that history.

Kind of not the place to post this, but while we're talking about a discussion search engine (and remember, even our dear Colleen said it was needed!), it would also be nice to go a step farther on the "My Conversations" and find a way for, when you post, to click a "reply" button for a single post, such as when Amber answers someone's question she will click a button to flag that she is replying to so-and-so's post. Then notify that so-and-so that there is a reply to HIS/HER question.
I get tired of looking at My Conversations, and see "OH, Someone finally posted on that one! " just to find someone saying "I can't download the mp3" or "Hi, I'm Chinese, please come visit me."
I recommend something like on imdb.com for discussions, where a reply to someone's post is embedded with his/his post, indented and kept with his post. Not asking for some complex forum/blog system, just something not so flat as what we have now. I'm patient, just saying that these two things (individual reply notification) and to make it clearer what post another post is a reply to. Comprede?

I miss Aric too. The Saturday Show is what got me hooked on Chinesepod. I know I wouldn't have kept coming back to the site without the Saturday Show to look forward to every week.

Rich,
I do think we need a forums search engine, revisiting old boards to go through posts can be tiring.

Hi Colleen!!!
Lessons about drugs is risky? I think the condom one, while just as needed as any thing, got quite a bit of laughs and jokes... especially me opening my e-mail box with a friend watching and has "Elementary Condoms" appear in the title.
Great to see both you and Aric dropping a line. I don't care what people thought about what shows are good/worthless, you are still part of what made ChinesePod what it is, through TGSSITW or however. Amazing how "Old school" on the web can just be months in difference!
Please do keep in touch here. And yes, WE DO NEED A DISCUSSION SEARCH OPTION!!!

AZERDocMom,
You should put "chinesepod" in the tags or somewhere in the title.
For the poddies It will be much easier to find this video.

Hi again : ) It's an elementary lesson on going to the doctor for a stomach ache. I have another lesson's transcript prepared, but haven't had time to create it.
Great to hear from you, Collen, and we really, really miss your lovely voice and cheerful demeanor!!

Hello!
Frank told me to check out this thread, which I had a hell of a time finding (is there no search feature for community posts?! arg.). Thanks for the kind words:) Im doing great, just working (at this very moment actually) for the government in Vancouver Canada. Im doing international marketing to Asia...how appropriate. I just listened to the 'drug dealer' lesson...wow, CPod, getting risky!

Thanks for dropping by, Aric. It's nice to hear that you're both OK and busy. I miss you too, and the Saturday Show. It was the one and only place where we could hang out where it didn't make any difference how much Chinese anyone knew, we were all equals having fun together. I miss that too. When I get better at Mandarin I too might forget why that was so important, but I hope not.

Aren't you all (most of you, ha ha) sweet.
I'm fine - busy, but fine; the new Shanghai Show debuts in a few weeks, and of course I'll pass on the link.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words - I miss the community that surrounded our little show and will do my best to make sure you have 2 pod/vidcasts to enjoy each week (CPod and mine).

italiana,
Aric used to work as a producer here at CPod. You still hear his voice in many podcasts in the "ad section" at the lesson's end.
Together with Jenny he also used to host the "Saturday Show" which was designed to be more a light community oriented event than a language intensive show. The Saturday show ran exactly a Jear (June 2006-June 2007) You can still find the old podcasts under:
http://extra.chinesepod.com/
I doubt they will be available for very long. I recommend to listen to the early shows to get the full spirit. Also tune in to the "Word on the Street" which was also hosted by Jenny & Aric.

Yes, Aric added spice to Chinesepod. And the Saturday show did add to an understanding of Chinese and Expat culture, especially his little stationary video shots he would comment on together with Jenny. They are still available on Youtube.

@xiaohu
TGSS in the world(!) was mainly to learn about chinese culture (Partyculture, events,news...) and you also had a chance to lern new chinese words there (good/swear word of the week) . And I wasn´t around here long enough to be encounterd as shameless selfpromoting listener of the year err... week...still bothers me...anyway... maybe someone makes up a chinesepodonlinemuseum then it would be the most viewed (oh year there was a videoversion of it as well) thing/object/ what ever... :-)

I joined Chinesepod a little bit late in the game. One thing that left me scratching my head when I first found the site is "why is the Saturday Show on this site?" It has nothing whatsoever to do with learning Chinese. To be honest after listening to a couple I just turned them off and never listened again. I figured it was just something there to be an entertaining break from learning Chinese, but when we're not learning Chinese we can find plently of other things to occupy our time. It almost seemed more like a radio show than anything else. Is that what Aric wanted it to be?
Still it just seems to me that if you're going to put an entertaining magazine show onto a site to learn Chinese, then the focus needs to be on helping people improve their Chinese. I like all the new segments on Chinesepod and that they're more focused on learning Chinese.
I think if Chinesepod were ever to bring the Saturday show back...IF it was focused more on language learning, I'd listen. I have to admit, Aric is entertaining.

The new features are great but I liked the Saturday show too. I'm a bit ambivalent regarding Aric--he tended to be either quite fun or really obnoxious. He was definitely a character though, and I miss that. I'm also curious about what happened to him.

I miss the Saturday Show. My little weekly podcast just doesn't fill that void. :-\

Ken, your pronounciation of English is very very very good.

September 29, 2007 at 04:59 PMI think we should have a Dear Amber segment with Aric who can share tips on enjoying the music and art scene in Shanghai. What do people think?
