July 8, 2008 at 1:10 PMOh really shalmaneser ? So i guess the board ought to be used only for praise or for the most politically correct mahogany inserted into the rectum level comments that one might deem proper in polite society?

July 8, 2008 at 1:06 PMrjberki, I hear what you're saying and I have definitely not outrgrown C-Pod. I have a 6 month subscription that I intend to use. One thing I have outgrown is my ability to tolerate lessons that are substandard. There is so much unused potential here. I can understand that the average new person might come to the site and say "wow this is so cool!" but for someone who has been here for a long time it's not so cool seeing the same problems over and over again. When is the last time you've seeen an advanced lesson with so many comments at such an early stage? Does it really only take outrage to generate interest? Compare the comments on any advanced lesson to any lower level lesson and you will see what I mean. And if you think that's because most users are low-level then you're kidding yourself. These higher lessons usually go unnoticed comment-wise because they are too boring or inaccesible for even the lower level people to bother putting the effort into trying. That being said, I'm sure I'll get tons of people calling my comments BS telling me how wrong I am but honestly, I know there are people out there that agree with me.

July 8, 2008 at 11:52 AMuser33162, I found it very hard not to respond to your post directly. I made a promise not to turn this into a personal issue but it's hard to resist a personal attack, especially one which had so much thought put into it.You would make a great sleezeball lawyer if you aren't one already--your cold and indirect style is fantastic. That being said, you added nothing to the defense of the advanced lessons. You did absolutely nothing in your essay about me to address the simple problems about the advanced lessons that have been pervasive for months on end. You did do the best job trying to bash me personally though,so I'll give you the gold medal for taking the most amout of useless space.

July 8, 2008 at 7:19 AMChristy,
I did have the decency to make sure I understood everything that was said during the dialogue and the explanations before I posted my complaints. Thanks for coming out though; see you next season.

July 8, 2008 at 6:53 AMClay,
not using a little bit of English is the least of the problems at the advanced level. I can handle the "no English because everyone else says it's bad" reasoning. It's the massive levels of sucking (i.e. where is my teacher?) that I have a problem with. Excuse my grammar and 'made up words' because I wrote that while in a big green frenzy.

July 8, 2008 at 6:44 AMI find it very interesting that people are attacking me on a personal level but nobody is making an intelligent comment disagreeing with what I'm saying about the lesson itself. I was bitching about the lesson and the teaching style and I'm trying not to make this personal with anyone. As for newbie888, I'm pretty sure I made my point clear about what's wrong and what can be fixed. I don't claim to be "such a professional teacher." I only claim to be someone who can point something out when it's smacking me in the face with a frying pan.

July 8, 2008 at 5:46 AMHonestly Jenny if gaining your respect was a priority of mine I'd be kissing your butt like all the little fanlings. I'm sorry to break this to you but I really don't care what you think of me personally. Hate me, make the lessons better and I'll be glad to retire into the 'dark dungeons of the internet' never to be heard from again.

July 8, 2008 at 5:10 AMIf you think this is a good lesson you all either have seriously low standards or have no clue what the difference between a lesson and a conversation is. At what point is there any actual teaching going on in this "lesson"? If I wanted to listen to two chinese people talking I'd turn on my TV. If I wanted to teach myself I'd just get a dictionary and sit in front of that TV. We do need a little spoon feeding even at the advanced level. Also, just because this is an advanced lesson doesn't mean all use of English needs to be banned like booze at an AA meeting. If someone is advanced enough in Chinese I don't think a little English is going to hurt them--it's very useful in clarifying linguistic counterparts to chinese words. I'm done ranting now since I've made my point abundantly ( and obviously very abrasively) clear. And I mean, come on! What teaching method? There is no method here!!

July 8, 2008 at 2:23 AMSeriously, you guys at Chinesepod need to hire some REAL teachers. How can you call this a lesson? I kept asking myself ....when are Jenny and her new pal going to explain the dialogue and stick to the subject? They ramble off topic more than two senile geriatrics in an old folks home. How hard is it to add some structure to the lessons? This is not a talk show!! It's a damn Chinese class!!!
