so this currrent speed isn't normal? Oh.
Well that's nice to hear. I only recently started using the site more...so I thought it was always this slow. Maybe its been receiving more traffic than usual?

Looks like my line upgrade has just been completed, my modem rebooted itself and the speed is now 7.6M instead of 2.2M. :)

Has anybody else had trouble with lesson not playing?
I've had trouble the last few days with lessons loading in the player, but never starting to play. Using the pop-out player has the same result. I don't think it's just my PC. I also had this problem at work on another PC.
Help?

Firefox and Safari are also about the same. I prefer Safari much more than Firefox, but use Firefox because of the Chinese Pera-kun add-on. Wish there was something similar for Safari. Haven't found anything, but if anyone knows of a similar tool, please share.
The site does seem faster today, overall.

Juliesong,
I tried the experiment using Firefox 2 and IE 7 and didn't notice any difference - I have a good number of add-ons (about 20) in Firefox too. I have noticed that, as of right now, the site is much faster (using either browser) then it was yesterday for me.

Interesting. I decided to take the Listening Test and it wouldn't work on Firefox, so I switched over the IE to try it. It worked fine, there.
So I went ahead and stayed logged in with IE and decided to see if I could access the other CP pages easier with IE. Oh my, it loads a LOT faster with IE. I don't know if it's because of the add-ons that are in my Firefox (which is certainly possible), or what.
Let me check the differences between browsers with the Speedtest page... huh, well, according to Speedtest.com there's not much of a difference (based on to and from Hong Kong, as they don't have Shanghai as an option - where *are* the servers located?). But using IE looks a lot faster to load, regardless. *shrug* Not sure what's going on.

The is a pretty cool connection speed test. My connection is really bad at the moment, just did a test from here to China is download is 121k and it's supposed to be 2meg broadband. I can only get 766k across the UK.

At the moment, all forums and blogs are unresponsive, though the main sites and main praxis blog are the same as they've been the past few days.
Something's happening.

Download speeds have also been unbearably slow. I've been trying to download a 10.2 MB lesson at 5KB/sec and it's taking forever. This is a new development so I doubt it's because of my connection.

It's pretty slow from here in Oz this morning. Maybe they're doing some of that maintenance that "nobody will notice".

I've not noticed it being any slower than usual, but as I've said before Chinesepod is one of the slowest sites I go on on the net.
I suppose it helps me follow Confucius's teachings about the virtues of patience. :)

Anyone remember the thread about being addicted to CPod? ;-)
Everything but the conversations page is working fine for me.

Hmm... too many people online. Alright, I'll sacrifice myself and get out (i.e. I'll stop refreshing the CPod page every 10 seconds). Let's see if one person can truly make a difference!

I've noticed in the past week that if I'm trying to use the site in the wee hours here on the west coast US that it's not nearly as slow.
But yep, it's *really* slow today.
I'm wondering if it has to do with the number of services the site has to load every time the conversations page is refreshed. Are the things loaded to that page resident on the CP server itself, or are they loaded from sources outside CP? If full loading is dependent on servers outside of CP, then they have no control over how long it takes to get the info from them.

It's been slow for me for the past week, but unbearably slow today.
I wonder if it has to do with the number of CPod users online (I assume there are more CPod users than SPod users).
Whatever the reason, I agree that is needs to be fixed soon...

It's always been pretty slow for me. I didn't notice any difference yesterday. I just know there are some times that it gets so bad that I kinda give up on it and go do other things, which is a bad sign.
(I'm on the US west coast.)

I don't understand :
http://chinesepod.com is always over 100 seconds per page now (in south-west Europe).
but http://spanishpod.com and http://blog.praxislanguage.com are around 6 seconds per page.
As Praxis, SpanishPod and ChinesePod are supposed to be be on the same server, I wonder if Cpod is slow down after the server.

For the last two weeks the log in process has been very slow for me and the pages too long to load. Today has been the slowest for me (except this discussion, interestingly). And yes, if it stays that way, I would be concerned too.

150 seconds per page this afternoon !!!!
At this point, you should definitely be concerned about your server's speed.

Today, it takes almost 8 seconds to download a single page which is, for the record, ever slower than the Linese website.
FYI, that's intolerable and doesn't encourage participation here !

I've not really noticed anything particularly today, though i must say that CPod is one of the slowest websites around generally unfortunately.
It really does feel like those tone lessons!

March 13, 2008 at 02:03 AMYes, I am jsut a few weeks old to the site as well. I just sort of thought this speed was avg. It's not intolerable, as some have said. I have pretty fast internet, though. When loading the listening test at a friends house, it took quite a while.
