Yes Changye even though it's a bit before my time! I know Mothra, have seen a clip of the twin girls singing the song. What a perverse (therefore effective) idea for a monster. Speaking of nostalgia and TV ads, I'm not sure where I got the idea, but always thought these were made in imitation of giant moths. Guess I was mistaken.

Fear of snakes is ophidiophobia.

I don't fear moths, I just can't stand the sight of them and their larvae. They may not be carnivores but they do have a way of eating holes in the nicer things in your wardrobe, ignoring the stiffer wools. Their powder causes itchiness (yes I smash them with my bare hands sometimes). Sorry if this offends anyone. I don't fear birds either but can actually understand why some people would. If you stop and think about any living creature too hard the details can be quite repulsive, with humans too of course.

I just saw a TV ad for a new type of 杀虫剂. They're saying it can be used with much more abandon (?) than conventional toxic chemical spray types, saying it instantly freezes the target to death (冻杀死??). I'm wary of this sort of consumer product myself--and a 15-sec commercial is just the headlines--so won't be running out to get it anytime soon.

Cockroaches I dislike with a passion, the way they come out of hiding when they think it's safe to run around, the way they fly, when desperate. Rats are in a league of their own. But does anyone here share my revulsion for moths 蛾子, esp the very large ones? They're disgusting and powdery and flit around mindlessly, unlike a cockroach in which you can actually detect stuff going on (fear, design, the desire to somehow survive the murderous intent looking them in the face).

I sprayed a lot of insecticide, but the cockroaches still didn't die.

made me think of one of my favorite American poets, maybe not so much the style as the situation. And actually, not so much his "poems" as his "novels" (which I read as long prose poems).

Thank you for twice calling attention to my question Xiaophil. I wish anyone with a comment could just post whenever they wanted and not be held back by fear of burying an earlier comment. I could have posted my question at this end (top of the pile) but decided to Reply to Jenny here to keep it all close together.

In future pls don't worry for my sake. I do appreciate it though.

Baba I think it's “请远离婴幼儿”. Varieties on this safety reminder can be seen printed on things like plastic bags: “为避免和防止儿童窒息等危险,请远离婴幼儿”.

This is very relevant to this lesson.

Sorry this is a very late comment. Does 广大 used like this also imply "from all over", even also "all kinds of"? Hoping to see many many car enthusiasts from all over (the country/world).

I guess I mean that the key with ~家 is "profess". You're someone who professes to have expertise / talent / extensive training in that field.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation Jason. Yes I would tend to think someone saying '这阵子天天应酬,真没劲。' was talking about how tired they were physically (drinking till late with clients night after night is punishing!). Also I guess I'll always have difficulty with being clear that something like 没劲(没有力气) is a Verb, not an Adj ... 真不容易。
