August 11, 2010 at 3:39 PMVery sorry--I'd forgotten to include these three questions. I promise there are no more! Did I get these right?

Posted on: Comparing Buts: 但 and 却
August 9, 2010 at 12:46 AMI never thought of 却 as a "but". It works better for me to think of it as (and) yet / (and) still / despite~ / nevertheless. Probably yet as the default.

August 9, 2010 at 12:15 AMHere are the rest of my questions (14:30 I'd most like to be clear on):
Apologies for thrusting so many questions up here. I won't be able to check back in much for a couple of days, but would very much appreciate any help. When the lesson transcript I'm working on is finished I'll come back and post a link here.

August 8, 2010 at 6:08 PMCalicartel thanks for helping out. Huh I could have listened another thousand times and never gotten Makes sense of course.
给孩子起(个)名子 is "to name a child". My question is, sounds like there's another syllable between the 起 and 这个名字, but maybe it's just a slur.

August 16, 2010 at 8:56 AMI agree with mengguren that the interview could have been done better. By spending all that time to make sure we get it that Mark is visiting China not from Canada his home country but from Korea then being mysterious and cute in not saying what he does in Korea, you only end up raising many ???s among listeners, as if there were some kind of intrigue about it. If you really think it's irrelevant or don't want to spend time on it all you have to do is say "So Mark is teaching English now in Korea." And he says "That's right". And you move on. That would take what, four seconds max.
