Yes 看 is easy to make sense of like this because you're going to "see" the conditions that will determine your decision or the outcome. You're going to see how you feel. Well let's see how the weather turns out. I'm going to see how much it costs first, etc etc.

Hi Bodawei, they're teaching "the other" depend on in this lesson--Depends on the weather / the price / how I feel tomorrow. 看情况 and so forth.

The second line of the dialogue is 那要看他想干什么。That depends on what he wants to do.

Also, I think you increase likelihood of getting help with this many of these kind of questions at a time by showing that you've made some effort yourself. If you don't own a dictionary there are several online resources. I use nciku a lot (unfortunately the site seems down at the moment), you can often get many example sentences there.

Baba I so agree with this approach for language learning:

But it's all new to me...so I just accept it is what it is and then try and understand how they got there.

Actually, as the why doesn't interest me that much, I'd probably say "I just accept it is what it is and then try and see how that could work". But I realize we might be saying the same thing here.

My interpretation:

十块的 = a 10 RMB note

两张 is the 数量词 (numeral + MW for slips of paper including banknotes)

I would say the 块 here is not a MW.

块 and 元 are MWs when you say things like 一百(100)块钱 and 两百(200)元钱. They specify the unit of money you're talking about.

Happy 5th Anniversary ChinesePod!

I guess you're planning to make your Anniversary page easier for us to find once the video montage is ready? It should be made way easier to find right now though shouldn't it? Unless I'm mistaken, as of now the only way I can get to it is from the link you have up here, and like I've said weeks and weeks ago News and Features doesn't show up on the Conversations page (or it disappears, once someone's made a comment). The announcement in the ChinesePod News box on the Home / dashboard page about your party that took place Sept. 3 might be replaced with an announcement and link to this Anniversary page at least, if you're not going to put up a colorful banner or something conspicuous like that somewhere on the site that makes sense. Otherwise that lovely page with messages from all those people is very strangely low-profile, when the congrats, tributes and celebration should be up and out there. There are going to be many people who won't know it exists!

Oh no. *groans loudly* CPod, guys, sorry to raise my voice but you have GOT to bring back the first three replies in this subthread which now will not show. The first of those comments is Jiaojie's original response to my question, and that, along with her latest comment here, are the ones that matter most; she was giving us very important insights for us learners. The rest are just questions I've asked. This isn't really a personal loss; it's a loss for anybody coming to this site to learn. Anyway, the subsequent comments don't make sense without the first three.

I came back just now to copy the example sentences Jiaojie took the trouble to write and post for me. And now I can't see them.

Those comments probably "got misplaced" when you guys went in to fix the unwanted italicizing. Made-invisible comments like this also happened on another (non-lesson) thread weeks ago, CPod staff are aware and said they were trying to retrieve, but I have not heard about it since and don't know what happened.

Please please bring back the missing comments here ASAP. This is so disappointing.

噢，我明白了。可以说“语法”不过是各种 rules of thumb （我们用日语说的是“経験則”。用汉语呢——经验法则？概测法？）的编译物罢了，不是吗？我虽然对这些比较喜欢提问题，为弄清楚爱问到底，但不怎么担心！听到老师们的观点总是很有益的。因为各位老师拥有的经验非常丰富。And experience is king. 我认为我们学汉语的外国人最好记住这一点。

就是“把握意思”是不容易的！
