July 31, 2009 at 8:41 AMAh Jiaojie I didn't know, or I wouldn't have gone and done that!
This is a case of what we call in Japanese 大きなお世話 ohkina o-sewa by me, 第三者管不着的事情.
☟ Not you Changye, me!

July 31, 2009 at 4:16 AMSorry Raygo--I knew actually that would put you on the spot and felt bad about it. You don't owe me anything re that Media lesson. I did the transcript strictly for myself.
And I would have PM'd you Jiaojie's name instead of telling you on the boards--under the old PM system. But it's too inconvenient now.
* catch up with me! right Raygo.

July 31, 2009 at 3:23 AMJohn, I see. Kansai--and with all its internal regional color variations--to us easterners is a foreign country. I love going there to visit, it's exciting but makes me nervous in a way that going overseas never does; it's the being Japanese and speaking Japanese yet finding the culture so different, the people talking so different, doing everything differently as I'm sure you know.
Agree about expressions using complements, for Japanese too. I'm terribly fond of saying things like かわいくて耐えられない (huh, can't think of better examples on demand myself) 可爱的不得了? and am enjoying trying them out in Chinese to see if they work.

July 30, 2009 at 4:45 PMpipixiamen, not at all to turn you off CPod, but if you think this discussion is drivelly ...
(and I think even the more persistent kind of drivel for the most part is based on enthusiasm for learning Mandarin--no matter how it looks sometimes).
As far as cliques go, in my understanding cliques are exclusive and closed, and there's nothing like that here. It's just that when you see the same people with common interests often enough, they become familiar and friendly faces.
Here in the community you can also find many user-initiated efforts to focus on study points that maybe can't be covered fully in lessons, etc. Look out for those too!

July 30, 2009 at 9:28 AMJohn 我这半天抱的希望相当大,很遗憾!(just kidding)
Actually I think these words exist, but are dangerously close to 'dumb' in Japanese (you may get the feeling across well, but do you think it's worth it if you have to sound like that?).
And why do I think I personally can never get comfortable with 爆好 or 巨好, esp seen in tandem like this? These may mean '非常非常好', but I suspect their roots can be traced back to all kinds of (to borrow Changye's term,) 'attractive' Japanese content.

(I'm no sleeping dog!)。

July 31, 2009 at 8:53 AMpipixiamen I thought you were a native English speaker ('drivel' isn't the most basic vocab taught at schools, as far as I know)!
Don't be shy, if you have questions just start talking to people here; many helpful and knowledgeable people will try to help.
