October 19, 2010 at 8:32 AMHiya babs
I had a conversation about this at the weekend with some chinese friends (for obvious reasons!). They were firmly of the opinion that I should stick with 伯父 and 伯母 as opposed to 叔叔 and 阿姨. 叔叔 implies that you are a young man, late teens or early 20s. For someone like me (I'm 33), that would apparently be weird, even though my parents are older than they are. 伯父 is just more respectful, and so is a safer bet.
Then we got on to what I should be calling the various grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins etc, and I decided that "你好" was a safe bet :)

October 12, 2010 at 9:55 AMI have a 的 (de) question! In the expansion, we see:
别问了,我不会告诉你的。
Bié wèn le, wǒ bù huì gàosu nǐ de.
Is this 的 just to add emphasis?

October 12, 2010 at 8:16 AMThe down side of our two indoor cats is that I often take my first bare foot step out of bed in the morning into a fresh pile of warm cat puke.
... *rushes out to buy a cat*

October 12, 2010 at 7:56 AMI'm allergic to pretty much all animals :-p My ex- has a cat though, so I have anti-histamines on hand.
And my girlfriend loves dogs.
So basically, I'm screwed :)
