Posted on: Chinese Breakfast
December 26, 2007 at 5:23 PMWhen I have visited China in the past, I am usually put up in a 5 star hotel like the Wangfujian in Beijing or Shangrala lin Shanghai. Breakfast off the Concierge floor is almost always a buffet that was included into my room rate. Since these hotels cater to many differnet nationalities, the buffet contains a lot a different cousines. But the one thing that I just could not figure our was congee. I wasn't thin enough to be a drink but not thick enough to be a porridge: porridge can really be made of any grain... at home (Montana), we have had then from wheat, corn and oatmeal as well as mixes. Incidently, I do not like porridges: it was usually an item that I was threatened with seeing for lunch and supper for the next week if I would not eat it. Congee. however, was a totally different matter: I could not figure whether I spoon it straight or if I was to add something to it. And, of course, everyone in my group was a Westerner and did not know either.

December 13, 2007 at 8:08 PMThis is really a great lesson. One of the criticisms that I get from native born Chinese speakers is that I speak Chinese with American/English logic. The first couple of sentences in this lesson are the word orders that I must become comfortable with. Thank you.

November 30, 2007 at 6:47 PMBazza had mentioned that the order would in the order that you recorded them. Unfortunately, that may not be true. It wasn't in my case because I had resorted the titles in Itunes software. But the problem correctable in a very simple way: First you need to display the track number. You can do this under the menu item View then View Options in Itunes. Once you have done this, then sort on this column. The track number of the Chinese Pod poscasts is the Lesson ID which are in chronological order. ... Hope this helps.

December 26, 2007 at 9:20 PMJenny, You are too nice of a person to be a sadist. Don't wish dorm life on your children: Dorm life is not fun, particularly when you get paired with a psycho! I had some real great room mates in college but I also had some real space children and idiots!
