May 8, 2010 at 11:16 PM"Twain, twain, twain, twain." When I tell them they are saying "Train" badly they reply, "Well you are British, I am speaking in an American accent."
This made me laugh. Of course they are correct. Mark Twain means 12 feet. So people on riverboats would shout out "Mark Twain!" or "Twain". That's Mississippi, not British.
Of course, you can ask them, "where the twain shall meet?"

As an aside, it would be nice to have spelled atheist correctly! (Some one who is "a" (away) from theistic belief.) I'm sure given the belief of the staff at Cpod, we would not be seeing "Xtian".

March 14, 2010 at 4:42 PM肉麻 I am quite familiar from growing up. While what you say is true, cheesy encompasses 肉麻, it is IMHO the wrong word in this context. To reaffirm, I discussed this with my Chinese friends and wife. I think cheesy refers to tacky, lame, kitschy, corny, inartful or perhaps cheapskate behavior. But I would never call my wife's behavior cheesy, especially in this circumstance. (Other's might, but beware of the unintended consequences!) One can imagine jesting to ones spouse, "Oh, you're so mushy!" because it still is endearing.
That said, I think the lesson is one of the recently best written, lacking stilted or contrived dialogue. I'm glad to see a native English speaker who can review the English for grammatical mistakes on the CP staff! I hope you can bridge the nuances between East-West - best wishes.

February 9, 2010 at 2:08 PMI've done my own electrical work in the past so I am familiar with what is necessary. Can someone explain what is "grooves for the wiring"? Is there a more apt translation? In the US, when you cannot drill holes into studs, then you use flexible conduit inside or metal conduit outside to hold the wiring. Thanks!
