I believe this 的 is coupled with the 是. A literal translation would be "You are one who is the best". I think there are a couple of omitted words here. If one was to write out all of it, it would be something like: "你是一个最棒的人". The "是。。。的" pattern is there to emphasize, I think.
Corrections or confirmation from more knowledgeable poddies or staff would be appreciated.

I'm hardly an authority, but I believe you can use 及时 (jíshí—timely, prompt). For example "这堂课来得很及时", zhè táng kè lái de hěn jíshí, "this lesson came at the right time".
Someone better than me should confirm or refute.
[EDIT] Sidenote: Can we use the measure word 堂 táng for lessons even if they're online (and as such not in a classroom)? Or is it better to use 节 jié? I understand that 一门课 yī mén kè means a course rather than a class, right?

November 10, 2009 at 5:44 PMI have not yet tried to write anything but meticulous writing with clear stroke order. I think it will be quite some time before I take up anything that will resemble a cursive handwriting. I'd love to be able to write in a cursive script, but that's far in the future. Right now all it would do is to mess up my handwriting.
Edit: Actually, looking at my notes, I do sometimes tie strokes together, but still far from cursive.

November 10, 2009 at 3:15 PMCPod, there's still a (slight) problem with the pop-up translations in the dialogue on this lesson. They all start with a single quote: ' . This means that when you add the words by clicking on them, they are added with that same single quote in the English. This is easily fixed in one's personal vocab tab, but I thought I should mention it anyway.
