Posted on: Where Did You Learn Chinese?
April 26, 2012 at 3:49 AMI only recently figured out what the word "troll" means in the context of posting comments. Nothing to do with fishing, as I understand it. (The trolling reference to fishing has to do with doing a broad search, metaphorically, similar to "casting a wide net" or "going on a fishing expedition." I think the Internet troll is a nasty little creature that hides under a bridge an pops out to make trouble when some innocent wanders across the bridge. At least that's my guess on the etymology. It means someone who relishes making gratuitous nasty comments, in the case of an "Internet troll"
What are the characters for "wu jiao"?

April 26, 2012 at 3:34 AMWas this lesson inspired by the Da Vinci furniture scandal? Anyway, are there some other ways to say "is composed of" or "comprises"? Thanks.

April 25, 2012 at 12:22 PMGood point. I have never rated a lesson before, but I gave this one 5 stars, since you mentioned it, even though I am not a newbie.

April 23, 2012 at 11:55 AMsorry for the typo, it should have been "上帝创造万物。"

April 23, 2012 at 5:12 AMYes, as in 上帝造万物. "God created all living things." I should have thought of that. Thanks for adding.

April 23, 2012 at 4:51 AMThe actor was either Greg or somebody with Greg's voice dubbed in. Maybe this will become a series. Let's see if he is carrying her purse in the next lesson.

April 23, 2012 at 4:14 AMSo impressed by the guy in the video dusting off the bench with his hands. Looking forward to more videos at all levels. I think the mouth closeups are a good idea. John's audio is completely out of synch at 2:45 though. Glad I'm not using Chinese Pod to learn English.

April 26, 2012 at 12:16 PMthanks for the explanation. I guess in English we would call that person a "shill" or a "plant." I found the word 托儿 (tuo1er2) in the supplementary vocabulary in the Cpod lesson on the dating show 非诚勿扰.
