Both 礼拜 lǐbài and 星期 xīngqī can be used for speech .They are both common in spoken Chinese.

In writing, 星期 xīngqī is more common.

1  When it shows the completion of an action:
I ate an apple.
I studied Chinese for an hour.
I went to Beijing, and also to Shanghai.

2  When it shows that a change has already happened, or is about to happen:
I'm not planning to go to Shanghai anymore (originally I planned to go.)

ljouneau:

Here, 了 marks an exclamation. It is unrelated to time. You can say "It's so hot! It's so delicious 太好吃了! etc."

Situations where you must use "了“

1 After completion of acts at specific times
Yesterday I went to the supermarket, and also to the bookstore.

2 After the completion of an act, a new situation occurred:
First, I studied Chinese for a bit. Then, I started chatting with a friend.

3 Under some conditions, methods or reasons, a result is obtained
With everyone's hard work, we finally completed our tasks.

huasen:

In the phrase "起晚了," 晚 is a resultative complement.

If there is a resultative complement after a verb, 了 should follow the complement.
For example:

Yīfu xǐ gānjìng le.
The clothes have been washed (so that they are now clean). Here, "干净--clean" is the resultative complement.
