日子 is more common, you can say:
今天是个好日子。jīntiān shì ge hǎo rìzi. （ Today is an auspicious day.)
今天是什么日子？ jīntiān shì shénme rìzi? （ What day today is?)
日期 is more formal, it can be used as: 生产日期 shěngchǎn rìqī (Manufacturing Date)

July 16, 2009 at 2:29 AMBoth "他球打得______好" and "他打球打得______好" is OK. There is not an implict 把 in "他球打得______好"。
For example:
You can say:
她歌唱得很好。 (tā gē chàng de hěnhǎo.) or
她唱歌唱得很好。(tā chànggē chàng de hěnhǎo.)

我 在家 看电视。wǒ zàijiā kàn diànshì. 在家 is Place.
But “我在家一个人看电视。”should be “我一个人在家看电视。”

I think you can understand this sentence:
wǒ zuìpà gǒu.(I'm most afraid of dog.)
so:
Wǒ zuìpà yīgèrén zàijiā. "yīgèrén zài jiā" is the situation I'm most afraid of.
It is different from:
我 在家 看电视。wǒ zàijiā kàn diànshì.
I'm watching TV at home.

According to the rules you're right. But since that is a special phrase so we just pronounce it as "bù yīqǐ".
