Hi Amber, Yes I also hear mǎmahūhū in the video. Then 马马虎虎 is pronunced in PTH (mandarin) at the end of the sentence in Shangainese. Maybe 马马虎虎 as a set phrase is not used with Shangainese pronunciation.

Sorry to put that in the Newbie section but my first encounter with Ken's 马马虎虎 seems to be in a Shangainese sentence. 马马虎虎 is pronunced in PTH.

Oops..."wipe with Rice" looks like criticism against American Foreign Policy. As to avoid any misunderstanding, I just wanted to say "soak up the Sauce with some rice".

Why eating soup at the beginning of the meal ? To moisten the mouth and the stomach before any the passage of any solid food. Why eating rice or bread at the end of the meal ? To fill up the stomach ... but also to WIPE the SAUCE. In all the countries having gourmet cuisine, something is always provided to finish the sauce left in the dish. ;) Here is a crude "wipe with rice" example :

Here is a good example for 还是 : 亲亲 还是 热吻 亲亲 is the light kiss (mouth closed) 热吻 is the warm kiss (mouth open but not french kiss)
