June 5, 2010 at 3:48 PMSpeaking about the popularization of Chinese Opera, I saw Li Yugang (李玉刚) last saturday (May 29th) at the Shanghai Grand Stage and this show was much better than what I initially expected. It presented some extracts of famous chinese operas in an elegant way between ballet and musical interlude. Lyrics on the side-screens (and on the programme) were easily accessible. Near the end, the show evolved into a different style close to pop music.
For me Li Yugang could be the André Rieu of the Chinese Opera with a great potential of success.
But the Shanghai Grand Stage was half empty and I didn't see many westerners. Was it denigration ?
PS: There's a DVD with almost the same show filmed in Beijing. I bought it in a back alley shop near the Yu Garden just after the show.

I don't think it's possible. But using a VIP pass or pushing someone on a wheelchair work well.

June 1, 2010 at 9:30 AMIn the toilets of the expo, I wonder why the english "Paper not from trees" was used instead of "recycled paper" ?
Paper (even when recycled) always contains tree fibers and tap water always contains water.
Also, the chinese 环保生活用纸 seems quite vague. Is it always used when speaking about recycled paper ?

This movie unexpectedly ended with a famous quotation of Dr. Sun Yat-sen :
天下为公 (tiānxiàwéigōng) The world belongs to everybody (the world is for everybody)
