July 12, 2011 at 6:43 AMhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthys
" Ichthys (sometimes spelled Ichthus, or Ikhthus, from Koine Greek: ἰχθύς, capitalized ΙΧΘΥΣ or ΙΧΘΥϹ) is the ancient and classical Greek word for "fish." In English it refers to a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point so as to resemble the profile of a fish, used by Early Christians as a secret symbol and now known colloquially as the "sign of the fish" or the "Jesus fish".
Ichthys can be read as an acrostic, a word formed from the first letters of several words. It compiles to "Jesus Christ God's son Savior" in ancient Greek "Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ", Iēsous Christos, Theou Huios, Sōtēr.
* Iota (i) is the first letter of Iēsous (Ἰησοῦς), Greek for "Jesus".
* Chi (ch) is the first letter of Christos (Χριστός), Greek for "anointed".
* Theta (th) is the first letter of Theou (Θεοῦ), Greek for "God's", the genitive case of Θεóς, Theos, Greek for "God".
* Upsilon (u) is the first letter of huios (Υἱός), Greek for "Son".
* Sigma (s) is the first letter of sōtēr (Σωτήρ), Greek for "Savior".
Historians say the 20th-century use of the ichthys motif is an adaptation based on an Early Christian symbol which included a small cross for the eye or the Greek letters "ΙΧΘΥΣ". "

July 5, 2011 at 5:56 PMActually, from my little experience, I think that french consulates never organized parties for their registered french residents but can eventually provide an usefull address book of people people living close to you.
If you want to party (and to network), you'd better contact the closest Chamber of commerce. I don't know about Australia but the British Chamber of commerce can organize memorable parties.

July 5, 2011 at 8:14 AMHi Bodawei,
I think that only long term resident are supposed to register with a consulate.
My stats gave the number of french residents registered in one of the 6 french consulates or at the french embassy in Beijing and a estimated number of the french residents un-registered with the consulates or the embassy.
At the origin, the registration with the consulate or the embassy was a security measure but nowadays it's mostly used as a network.

July 5, 2011 at 7:51 AMThe human body was symbolically compared to a city of Nine Gates (Nine Doors) long before the origin of Buddhism. But, even if the human body has more than nine gates, this concept was easily adopted by Buddhism.
This nine symbolic gates are the two eyes, the two ears, the two nostrils, the mouth, the urinary system and the anus.

July 4, 2011 at 1:01 PMWhen you clean someone's ears, you have access to some of his "body doors" which, for me, should be a sign of close intimacy or medical care.
In an other lesson, I think that Cpod should develop how the concept of "body doors" is understood in Asia.

July 4, 2011 at 8:26 AMWith this translation, it almost looks like the Citizenship of the European Union :
"Every person holding the nationality of a Member State shall be a citizen of the Union. Citizenship of the Union shall be additional to and not replace national citizenship."

July 18, 2011 at 7:29 AMHi David,
I think that the main difference between 白酒 and 黄酒 wasn't mentioned in this podcast.
米酒 and 黄酒 come (mostly) from a fermentation. That's why the level of alcohol remains "low". This type of drinks is not called a spirit.
白酒 comes from a distillation (after a fermentation). That's why it's also called "burned wine" (烧酒). This type of drink is called a spirit.
