February 28, 2010 at 4:26 PMOne thing interesting about red is the color coding in the stock market. The color coding in Taiwan is completely different from the western countries. For example, when the value of a stock rises, it is shown by the color red; when the value goes down, the color of the stock will be shown by green.
I wonder if this is also true in China or only the people in Taiwan apply this Chinese notion of red in the stock exchanges.

February 28, 2010 at 4:12 PMIn this case, I guess you can say 你的努力将可换得许多红利。nǐ de nǔlì jiāng kě huàn dé xǔduō hónglì. But if I translate it this way, it is just for rhyming 努力and 红利 (inspired by bababardwan). I don't think it's good Chinese.e
In Taiwan, some high tech companies use 分红 (fēnhóng: share the profits) 配股 (pèigǔ: allot the stocks) to earn the employees' loyalty.

February 26, 2010 at 12:44 PMTo summerize the thread of simonpettersson, there is no agreed way to pronounce 血. Different dictionaries denote it differently. I myself pronounce the word either xiě or xuě, rarely xuè. But I know some teachers like the pronuciaton of xuè, and claim that it's the "most correct" pronunciation.

I didn't realize this until one day my husband (he's a French)pointed this out too. He was curious why everyone was so sad in front of an almost all green screen in a stock exchange.
Luckily the traffic lights don't follow this rule. But there may be other surprising color codes in China. Let's wait for the Chinese Pod to dig out more.
