September 3, 2011 at 11:59 AMIs it correct to understand the use of 一直 as an emphasis as in 他今天一直都呆在家里，没有出去玩。Could this not be stated without the 一直 as "他今天都呆在家里，没有出去玩。"? I have the impression this might be the type of statement you would give to the police in an investigation where you are trying to emphasize that you certainly did not leave the house.

To follow up, I used an online dictionary to find that 有兴趣 = interested; interesting; whereas 看上=to look upon; to take a fancy to; to fall for. This is in keeping with the manner used in the text i.e. have interest in interpretation 对____有兴趣, versus 看上 interest in a person (the interpreter).

July 15, 2011 at 6:46 PMI have seen this before, most likely in a text book, but can't find the reference. In any event, until someone more knowledgeable answers my understanding is that 向 meaning toward gives an indication to whom the request is directed.

September 5, 2011 at 12:20 PMO.k. My first reaction was to drop 都 also. I have often heard the you have a better chance of being correct to go with your first reaction when responding to problems, and perhaps this confirms this. Thank you.
