For the second sentence of the dialog near the end the hanzi is 

喜欢的课就占中间的座位，不喜欢的就占后排的。This is translated as 

"For the classes I liked the most, I'd get a seat in the middle. I didn't like to get the seats in the back."  Isn't this more accurately translated as "For the classes I liked the most, I'd get a set in the middle. If I don't like the class then I sit in the back row." In this manner, the emphasis is on liking or disliking the class rather that a particular seat location.

In the expansion sentence 我不想把时间浪费在玩游戏上。can 上 be omitted? Is it for emphasis or is it essential?

Fun learning Chinese -Besides doing Chinesepod lessons, the flash cards on this site are helpful but I do not refer to them often. However, there is a matching game at http://www.yellowbridge.com/chinese/chinese-memory.php that I find useful and fun in its own sort of way. For me, its as consuming and more educational than playing the computer games that come with my operating system - any other ways of fun learning among participants. Unfortunately, the memory game there is tied into common texts and books. It would be really great if Chinesepod had such games related to lessons. Dreaming, but dreams motivate!
