Chinesepod students might be interested in a free course on China from Harvard University. https://www.edx.org/course/harvard-university/sw12x/china/920 The course just started and has completed its first lesson but runs through this year and next with a module once a week.

Thanks. So dānwèi is not currently in use?

How does a 工会(gōnghuì) differ from a 单位 (dānwèi )? Do these different entities interact? My preconception is that both have some type of responsibility to the employee as well as the employee having a responsibility back.

I presume that 还 is for emphasis. So the translation might be something like Indeed! It's a good thing that you studied geography. (said in a cynical manner)

To see if I have recent lessons correct, I believe that you can transform the somewhat cynical statement in the dialogue into a kuī statement as below:

Dialogue

 哎哟,你有没有学过地理啊?是巴勒斯坦,不是巴基斯坦。
(Jeez, did you study geography? It's Palestine, not Pakistan.)

Revised using kuī.

亏你学过地理啊。 是巴勒斯坦不是巴基斯坦。

(It’s a good thing that you studied geography. It’s Palestine, not Pakistan.)

Any correction will be appreciated.

Popular coffee substutes in the U.S. include various mixtures of Barley, Rye, Chicory, and carob with varying proportions of each. At least one includes dates and almonds. Different flavors for different preferences. Perhaps these have been inspired by 大麦茶.

A timely lesson with a too horrific outcome to go into here, but you can read about it for yourself if you choose to.
