September 29, 2011 at 3:38 AM一段时间 yī duàn shíjiān is a set phase, which means a period of time which can be a few hours or a few months. 一段 isn't the same as 一点 and can't be interchanged. 一点 collocates with a wide range of nouns to mean a little bit of whereas 一段 is mostly commonly used in the set phrases一段时间.

September 29, 2011 at 3:34 AMUsually in China there are many cabs waiting at the airport. If there's a shortage of cabs during rush hour, then cab companies will dispatch cabs to the airport. I don't think you can make a call to reserve taxis because taxis have to line up in order to get into the airport and it's hard for one cab to get in and find you amongst a sea of travelers. If you want to reserve a car, you should call a car service rather than cab company. But taxis are usually pretty abundant unless it's rush hour in which case you need to wait for a while and but there will be a cab.

September 29, 2011 at 2:00 AMThe distinction between 偷/tōu and 抢/qiǎng isn't whether the perpetrator is a stranger or not. 偷/tōu means to steal without you noticing or at least the intention is to do it sneakily. 抢/qiǎng is to grab something from you by force, eg. 抢银行/qiǎng yínháng, to rob a bank which means the crime takes place not secretly but openly.

September 24, 2011 at 3:51 PMYou can omit fēn if the minutes in Chinese is more than one syllable, e.g.八点零五. If it's 8:10, for example, you need to say 八点十分 not 八点十。It's more to do with syllable harmony than grammar.
