May 18, 2007 at 5:13 PMBlake, “潇洒”是个意境很丰富的词。既是cool, 但更有无拘无束、自由的意思。基本上用来形容男性或者男性化的东西。中文词语不分性别，但是如果分的话， “潇洒”就是个雄性词。 P.S. 你喜欢看"Murder, she wrote"?

I actually never noticed the different characters, largely because the radicals look rather similar and more importantly, I have been using the computer to 'pinyin write' for too long.After reading your comment, I first looked at the lesson picture which features a real phone bill, and the character used is 帐. Then I looked up in my CHiense English dictionary, the result is the same. Next I went to google, and discovered that when I typed 'zhang4 dan1', Microsoft pinyin gave 账单。 But then google, upon turning search results featuring the word账, suggested me to look for 帐单. I did so and saw gazillion more results turned up, validating that 帐 is used in most cases. What a character mystery! Now I have to confess that I don't have a Chinese dictionary at home. Let me get back to you on Monday when I go to chinesepod.

Why one is used instead of the other in some cases is mainly based on sound (whether monosyllabic or 2 syllables sound 'smooth'). It is really a very subtle and intricate understanding which comes with many years of exposure to the language. We are so thrilled that the earlier issues with V3 are being solved one by one. And that it is doing its job for poddies.
