March 19, 2008 at 4:06 PMalexyzye, 七七 is a fixed expression used for the seven- day-circle after death. For example, 头七/the first 7 days; 二七/2nd 7 days and so on. It doesn't apply to numbers in general, perhaps with the exception of multiplication table though. 二 二得四， 三五十五，四五二十。

March 17, 2008 at 12:56 PMdaxiong, 也 means 'also'. 还 means ‘still' or 'more over'. For example, 我也饿。/wo3 ye3 e4/I am also hungry. 我还饿/wo3 hai2 e4/ I am still hungry. They both have some variations on the meaning and usage, but at the newbie level, knowing the primary meaning will do.
