November 27, 2008 at 2:21 AMI find that in major bus stops and sometimes even subway stops, people are more orderly in terms of lining up. It helps that there are 'line patrol' officers helping keep order. But it's also the overall environment which helps regulate people.

You can simply say 后面 for 'back of the line' in this context.

November 20, 2008 at 12:13 PMThis is real life stuff, not always pretty, but always useful. We have a follow-up lesson next week which talks about the cultural issue that caused the fight. In general, I think the very neat and professional way of dealing with people doesn't work in China. We prefer to operate in the grey area and believe that everything can be negotiated/商量/shang1 liang4。

We say 黄,草头黄/or草字黄, because the radical is 草字头(grass). 荒 would make a good stage surname.
