What the guy in the dialogue said was “我们就偷偷地喝”。就 here means 'therefore'. The previous sentence was “学校不让我们喝酒”/’The school doesn't allow us to drink’. You definitely can't say 我们酒偷偷地喝。The syntax is wrong. Like you said, 我们偷偷地喝酒 is correct.

July 25, 2009 at 2:00 AMGreat to see the response to this Qing Wen. I'd say there are about 10 commonly used measure words which will be covered over these few episodes of Qing Wen. Stay tuned.
If you havn't checked this week's intermediate lesson out, it's a great way to learn measure words. http://chinesepod.com/lessons/drinking-game
@laodie,
Using proper measure words is actually part of daily speech rather than a literary style of speaking. The Qing Wen team hopes to make it easier for you guys.
@carlos_in_irvine,
The measure word for tiger is 只,一只老虎。We did a newbie lesson featuring a universally popular children's song called 'two little tigers'. Good for learning measure words. Check it out.

这个...这个 is a conversation filler, the equivalent of 'um'. Actually, there is a word 嗯/en, which is the precise equivalent of 'um'.

Software tester is 软件测试员/ruan3 jian4 ce4 shi4 yuan2.
Speaking of what one does for a living, most people in China are clueless when I tell them I am a podcaster because many don't know what podcasting is. (BTW, podcast/podcasting is 播客/bo1 ke4.)

I find the 'er' sound in 'Cher' similar to the 'er' sound in Chinese. The tongue is rolled up at the top of the mouth. But that's just my opinion. Fellow Poddies, what do you think?

撒娇 is not a 'love/hate' relationship. It's more a personality or a tactic that women and children often use to get attention, doting and get what they want. The typical behavior of 撒娇 is to act cutesy or whiny.

You are way too modest. You express yourself very well in Chinese. I think I wasn't clear either. What I wanted to say is that for a native speaker, using proper measure words is part of daily speech.
