I don't think many men accompany their wives into the delivery room in China. It's not allowed in many hospitals. But hearing stories from friends who did, it seems men who are present in the delivery room have a renewed level of respect for their wives.

Yes, there is an important distinction between 认识and 知道. If you don't personally know the person, but only know of them, you should use 知道/zhi1 dao4. 我知道那个人。

No, you can't say 一双腿。In fact, 'a pair' doesn't apply to legs. You can only say 两条腿。The same applies to arms. However, you can say 一双脚/yi1 shuang1 jiao4/a pair of feet and 一双手/yi1 shuang1 shou3/a pair of hands.

That's correct. 外公/wai4 gong1 is maternal grandpa, 外婆/wai4 po2 is maternal grandma. You most probably know this, but 爷爷/ye2 ye is paternal grandpa, 奶奶/nai3 nai is grandma.

When I hear 口, I always have the image of a big family waiting to be fed. And it was like that for a lot of people in China pre-only child policy. It was common for people to have 5 to 6 children or more. My parents came from such big families. And now we have gone to the other extreme.
