Many people in China believe that beverages other than water would 'interfere' with medicine, so they shouldn't be consumed with medicine. My mom would fall off the chair if she sees me washing down pills with Coke.

Thank you for your support! I am really glad that you find the site useful.
Like Xiaophil pointed out, there is a PDF transcript for each lesson. Also, we have a series of newbie lessons on tones which you might find useful. Simply type 'tones'
in the search box on the top right of the page and you will find them.
Keep up your work!

January 5, 2010 at 3:27 AMI've never found a reliable GPS in China. The map function seems to be secondary to warning drivers against a speed camera near by.

Very true observation, which is also a vivid snapshot of China at the crossroads between the old and new.
@huan9,
Glad you like the lesson. We've had some futile attempts of finding kid voice actors. Turns out no kid likes being in a dark, sound-proof room talking to the mic with strangers.
@fulankelin,
Wow, great timing of the lesson! I am sure the Aoteman will make you the boy's new best friend in the States.

The verb for 恶作剧 is 搞, 搞恶作剧。
Re 认出 and 听出,the key is by which means. 认出 means to recognize visually whereas 听出 means to recognize by hearing. So when we talk about voice, we use 听出。
听出来 and 听出 are the same. You can use either of them.

@bill,
Wish your wife a very happy birthday!
@li4wei3,
Glad you find the lesson useful. Do you eat vegetarian turkey? I was told you can get 'turkey' made from tofu in the States.

头痛 (tóutòng) and 头疼 (tóuténg) are the same. 痛 (tòng)and 疼 (téng) both mean 'pain', 'ache'. When you want to express pain or ache, you can use either of them, e.g. 牙疼/ya2 teng2 and 牙痛/ya2 tong4 both mean 'toothache', 肚子疼/du4 zi teng2 and 肚子痛/du4 zi tong4 both mean 'stomachache'.
