January 1, 2008 at 6:00 PMAnother home run ... great lesson! I was very fortunate that as I was listening to this lesson, my s.o. started preparing 麻婆豆腐 ... such great timing and a nice way to start the new year. Bazza, great link! Here are two more of my favorite 四川 dishes: 干煸辣子鸡 gan1 bian4 la4 zi ji1 水柱牛肉 shui3 zhu4 niu2 rou4 大家新年快乐! 何睿林

January 1, 2008 at 12:26 AMIn the extended exercises, 门关了吗?(men2 guan1 le ma?) is translated as "Did you close the door?". How does one say "Is the door closed?" 再见, 何睿林

December 31, 2007 at 9:05 PMEnjoyably succinct, sublimely executed ... ahh, a very nice lesson. Frequently my s.o. will add a 好吧?(hao3 ba) to the end of a suggestion which seems to soften it bit. I believe its a little softer than 号码? but I'm not sure. She is from 北京 (bei3 jing1) so it might be a regional thing? 再见, 何睿林

December 27, 2007 at 4:27 AMYow! Really good reality check with this intermediate dialog (the performers were awesome!) for my listening skills. Even though I re-played the 1st sentence of the 4th line over at least 15 times I still can not discern all 12 characters at one time ... I just can't parse it yet at speed. This dialog will become a base-line to measure my listening progress over the next year. 再见, 何睿林

December 26, 2007 at 3:12 PMAlthough this isn't verb reduplication, it was the 1st reduplication of any kind I ever heard. I think this is from 毛泽东 (Mao2 Ze2 Dong1): 好好学习 天天向上 Hao3 hao xue2 xi2 Tian1tian xiang4 shang4 (Study hard and everyday you will improve) 再见, 何睿林

December 26, 2007 at 1:39 PM哎呀! Yow! Starting with learning to distinguish 看 from 看起来 and ending with on how to describe a well endowed squirrel is more than bargained for! 再见, 何睿林

December 25, 2007 at 9:55 PMThe banter between between Amber and Clay is priceless ... thank goodness that Connie's straightforward answers and pronunciation grounds these so that they are extremely useful. And yes, Taipan, that definitely sounded like a bong-hit at 1:30. Hey channa and lanqing, I used to think that the bg music was 也一点儿吵, but now after listening to a bunch of 请问, I don't even hear it anymore. 再见, 何睿林

December 25, 2007 at 2:14 PMThis lesson really blew me away. I just have never had so much fun learning anything as much as from these. By using the pause button today, I had so much fun testing my self to see if I could understand Connie before Ken and Amber translated. Perhaps some day a lesson on the subtleties regarding the ubiquitous 啊 (a) interjection can be pod-casted here on QingWen. 再见, 何睿林

January 1, 2008 at 9:13 PMHere in the states, at least in the Boston area, I have seen General Cao's chicken on Chinese menus referred to as: 左宗鸡 (zuo3 zong1 ji1) Was there such a general? 再见, 何睿林
