April 20, 2008 at 6:29 AMThere is a hidden meta-language cultural point in this Dialogue. Our sick protagonast *snuffles* audible. In the west this is considered rude, you need to *blow* your nose. In China it is the absolute opposite. Blowing your nose is met with disgust (I guessthis is also why paper tissues are only coming in strange parfumed types in China - they are not for blowing but for sniffing). Culture becomes really dangerous here. On a very subcutaneous level. Be aware.

April 18, 2008 at 6:29 AMA small question regarding an idiomatic structure in the Expansion: 笼子里的鸡怎么一夜间全死了? 全死了?? Could you alternatively just "die a little bit"? (You might do so in French, but in Chinese)

April 18, 2008 at 5:34 AMMy wife always complained that western food is basicly just meat, meat, and more meat. Much unlike the *real* Chinese cuisine which consists of sooo many vegetables, and tofu ingredients. Now I have a collegue from Inner Mongolia now and he is complaining about Western food also. Not enough meat, all vegetables. Much unlike *real* chinese food which is just mountains of meat, real good meat, lamb, beef, pork. :)

If you want more Chinese banter, why not join us in the upper levels. Pinyin is bad on your eyes anyway. The pharmacist prescribes pure 汉字. P.S.: I just checked your other comments - not really contributing to the collaborative learning expericience either, if you ask me.
