Let's face it: We will never understand the girls. Be it with or without their background music, be it in this lesson or anyplace else.
(Acoustically, I personally had no problems following here. I think the music is OK, the voices are not that naked with it; there is more audible depth.)

June 20, 2008 at 9:30 PMI'm with excuter. Never heard of any dish with chicken feet in it. And so far everybody I told about this Chinese habit dismissed it as strange and exotic (just like eating jellyfish). Sigh, those people don't know what they are missing...
I wouldn't exclude that there is / has been a regional dish like that. Today most Germans find the thought of eating fish head disgusting, too - although up to my grandfather's generation eating this valuable part was rather common (at least in the North).
The traditional regional cuisine is being washed away by the malstroem of cultural unification and the ever rising standard of living.
You still get "Kutteln" (stomach) though in Baden-Württemberg in most local restaurants.

Regarding the fruits: As soon as I began telling everybody about that miracolous 柿子-fruit you only find in China, all large German retail outlets started offering them in their regular sortiment...together with those delicious pears and apples imported from China (although the ones in China are still a class juicier).
Now you get 柿子 at Aldi and Lidl. They are either called "Kaki" or "Sharon" here (no connection to any Poddie intended).
But be warned: They are often already 涩 [sè] in those supermarked. (there is obviously no translation for this. If 柿子 are 涩 and you eat them you get a furry tongue, feels strange).

A question on one of the Expansion sentences...
In the "虽然我人在海外" there is this "我人". Is this 我人 common way to refer to oneself?
Also interesting for me was the following construction:
"让人读了很感动"
I guess I would have put that 让读得人很感动
让人读了 sounds for me like "makes people read", not "makes reading people"...
