June 17, 2008 at 2:57 AMThe last time we came back from 北,京 with Air China in Frankfurt, we arrived last at the Baggage claim. The belt had already stopped. And seemingly only our two oversized, overweight bags were there. We got home smoothly.
Then suddenly my wife exclaimed: "That is not our suitcase!". Indeed - it looked exactly same (large, green, hard shell, scratches...). But it wasn't. Ours had already been taken. By a Chinese lady who had taken it to the remote city of Basel.
It all sorted out - within 12 hours we had the suitcases switched.
Happy end.
[Unlike our Air France story from 1996 where we waited 4 months to get back our suitcase - with our thick 2x2-meter winter blanket in it. That my wife took home to get cleaned. We were only students back then and it got freezing cold...]
I guess those kind of stories are rather Upper Intermediate...

Actually I found "western style" Chinese food in China once. In a "hip" (and cheap) self-service all-you-can-eat restaurant in Beijing mostly frequented by kids and teenagers. Alongside really bad "sushi", sausages, sugary (!) Pizza, American cake, and coffee poisened with overly high sugar doses. I was actually asked if this was "Really the food you eat in Germany?".

June 9, 2008 at 7:59 PMI am currently at a symposium at the beautiful city of Freiburg. Just this evening my Chinese and I were looking for a beer garden on a hill with a stunning outlook on the city (& live soccer broadcast). When climbing up the stairs I asked: "What are we doing here??" And he replied: "Pa shan!" 2 conclusions: 1. Pa shan is correct indeed 2. Creepy CPod prophesy hit again. Until this evening I did not even know there are hills in the inner city of Freiburg! Linguistic riddle: My collegue further explained that pa shan turns into deng shan when you start using your hands. But he was language-wise lost if it also counts as deng shan if the hand-appliation is beer induced... Posted with from the mobile ("Iphone") site. Have mercy...

If it is really serious (and only then): Roaccutan (cf. Wikipedia) saved me. I took it when I was 24 and aferwards the acne was gone. Forever.
But be aware: It is indeed devil's stuff. With great results come not so great side effects. So consult a knowlegeable doctor first. Women should not take it at all.
