Hi bababardwan

That peom is excellent and a good example! Your right it is hard to get your head around but the English translation at the bottom helps ;)

Its amazing that you can say so many things by just changing the tones.

Thanks

Just a bit of fun but I notice that kuai4, like a lot of words has many meanings to it...im guessing its all about conext but what would happen if I wanted to say and not write the following:

(All bold words are quoted in the dictionary as valid results for kuai4)

The sharp chopsticks flew fast and straightfoward but they soon smashed into pieces....

Thats a lot of Kaui4! :)

Hi changye

Thanks for the insight. I thought, I had heard it pronounced like that somewhere before. I just assumed it was an accent thing but that makes perfect sense.

Hi changye

Thanks for taking time to explain that to me. I think I understand what you mean.

So its a shorter way to say "this one"?

I see in this lesson when a person asks the question just "Zhe4" 这

But when answering the question "Zhe4ge" 这个

My understanding is the "ge" 个 is a measuring word, so my question is this....what is being measured in the reply that is not being measured in the question?

Thanks in Advance!

miantiao

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated

The dictionary quotes zhe4me as a pronoun and gives lots of meanings for it. Does anyone have any tips for how they learn words like these?

Seems a bit confusing to find words again that you think you have already learnt! I guess thats why "context" is always mentioned in the pod casts but I does make it hard when trying to memorise words from English through the flash card app!

Hello,

can someone explain to me the difference between "zhe4 ge5" and "zhe4 me5"??

I've seen them both used now. I know that ge5 is used as a measure word, so what about me5? Are there any rules when to use it?

Also I want to mark it slightly differently in my flash cards for practice purposes.

Thanks

Hello All,

Can anyone explain the following for me?

I currently have two versions of "This" in my vocab section. One says "zhège" and the other is just "zhè". Whats the difference?
