Thanks Lujiaojie but my question was how do you decide when it is appropriate to use it with a verb in the positive manner?

Are there any rules? Are there ones we should really avoid? Do we just have to learn a list of applicable ones etc?

How does one decide when to use 被 in a positve sentence?

Any advice?

In this QW it is said that people tend to only use it for negative things but in a recent "Visa Issues" lesson it is used to indicate something very positive; (to be hired)

如果我被錄用，公司會幫我辦簽證嗎？

你們筆意是"I've almost died from boredom" 的意思

為甚麼不是 "I'm going to die from boredom" ???

In this lesson the difference between 還是 and 或者 is discussed. How does 或是 fit into the picture? Which camp does it fall into statement, question or neither?

我聽不出來王冠的口音.

Where does his accent come from and what are the characteristics that make it strange? Is is pronunciation or tonal?

I am a little worried that I did not notice anything wrong and wondering if my currently level of understanding of spoken Chinese is coming from word order rather than tones.

For me, finding the right balance between the two is the smart thing to do.

Sometimes you learn more from the mistakes you are allowed to make rather than the mistakes you are prevented from making. Also while a good education is very important, social skills in the work place have just as much value and cannot be nurtured behind a book.

In Taiwan 小姐 is used all the time and definitely not offensive. However when I visited ShenZhen on a business trip I was told not to use 小姐 as that is how people refer to ladies who work in places that cater for entertaining men...

Not sure how true that is but I certainly did not want to risk it.

Whenever someone asks me this at the gym, I sometimes get caught up trying to be really precise... Good to know I can use it this way to give a rough figure.
