May 4, 2012 at 10:11 AMThere are many reciprocal duties and obligations that govern human relationship in the Chinese culture that do not take into account the emotional aspect; it is not surprising that they use the same approach to love and romance. This might be odd from the western point of view, love for them should be steaming with passion and devoid of human reason.
I also believe that women tend to engage more in this dialogue because they traditionally have a lower status in society and prefer to be loved because this means security for herself and her children. And if you watch enough of Chinese historical love story, passionate heroines tend to end up miserable or dead and despised by society for breaking social norms. This might very well change as they become more economically independent.
