May 2, 2012 at 11:26 PMI am a Chinese living in the US (originally from the Philippines) married to non-Chinese and I understand how much families depend on each other for security. I just wished my son listens to me more than to his peers! He grew up in Pittsburgh with only 1% minority then so his outlook is very mainstream. My daughter is exposed to more minority here in Florida and having learned from my mistake, she goes to Orlando Chinese School once a week. Her teacher is from Mainland China and is very tough. It's good that she is learning but the pressure that I had to get her ready for the exam!
It seems like the Singapore government had made it very clear that the care of the elderly parents is the responsibility of the children, not the government. I am not so sure about China but I have been out of Asia for a long time.
