October 13, 2009 at 11:40 PMTalking about license plates - I heard from a professor (who specialises in traffic) the other day that license plates in Shanghai are being auctioned nowadays. Not sure if this helps deter people from getting one, but it most probably drives prices up even higher.
On another note: I am curious about the 这下 (which our drunk driver guy uses at the end of the discussion, and his night out). Recently on the radio, I heard a guy saying 这下我就放心了!
Is it right that 这下 can be translated as sth like "well, then,..", "OK, then", or "in that case"? Could anyone give me some examples?

Many thanks. But I still don't quite understand the 会 bit. In my understanding, 会 acutally can sometimes mean "will" (as in will for sure, in the future), e.g. if I say:
我下周会写信给你。 I will write you a letter next week.
Or
A: 你回来之后还会爱我吗? Will you still love me when you return?
B: 我会 （你放心吧，肯定会!) I will, of course I will! Rest assured
I remember hearing a dialogue similar to example 2 (differently phrased, though) in a film.
It's funny, when I started studying Chinese, I was told that the language did not have a future tense, which I guess is true, but no teacher or text book ever pointed out that 会 can also mean "would", or "will". Textbooks would always just say it meant "to be able to".

So in a future tense sentence with 将，you don't necessarily need to add a 会 for emphasis, is that right? (I think would have written 您将把自己所有的财产都会捐给慈善事业）。

With the 了 involved, I understood the sentence to be "you have given away all your possessions to charity", and the 将 here would be equivalent to 把.
Could the Chinese sentence be understood to be past tense, too?
