March 9, 2009 at 8:54 AM陈博士,
麻烦您,我知道“大夫”还是“医生”。Where does 博士 fit in here? How does it differ from 医生和大夫?Are you a doctor of medicine treating patients,or more of an academic? 谢谢您
我也挺高兴在这里认识您

Thanks heaps for going to the trouble of filling in the gaps/correcting my attempted transcription:

..got it now.
Pete,
心领...would have given me.. heart[or mind] leads...so going where you're heart leads you.Yep,I definitely want the idiomatic too. Both are enriching. Thanks :)
Jenny,
Thanks for explaining the difference between 一定 and 肯定。

March 9, 2009 at 2:56 AMPete,
I suppose it just comes down to different people having different learning styles and you have to go one way or the other and I accept that.Personally I like having a deeper understanding of what I'm saying and want to understand both the literal and idiomatic, and would feel like I had missed out on so much if I did not get the wonderful literal expression "a Sichuanese dog barking at the sun." It says a lot and I find this sort of thing easier to remember.I also think people will understand these sayings better than you give credit for.I had never heard of "all hat and no cattle" before, but immediately felt I knew what it meant.I love sayings like this. But yeah,it's all cool anyway. As I said,I love the way the dialogue tab is sorted out now,so keep up the good work. :)

From wikipedia:
"Peking is the name of the city according to Chinese Postal Map Romanization, and the traditional customary name for Beijing in English (passports issued by the British Embassy are still printed as being issued by the "British Embassy, Peking"). The term Peking originated with French missionaries four hundred years ago and corresponds to an older pronunciation predating a subsequent sound change in Mandarin from [kʲ] to [tɕ][15] ([tɕ] is represented in pinyin as j, as in Beijing). It is still used in many languages.
The pronunciation "Peking" is also closer to the Fujianese dialect of Amoy or Min Nan spoken in the city of Xiamen, a port where European traders first landed in the 16th century, while "Beijing" more closely approximates the Mandarin dialect's pronunciation.[16] "

March 8, 2009 at 3:42 AM糟糕,我不明白。。“那公在这你说买房”。。。???
Did I hear the first part of that last sentence correctly?
..that public at this you say buy house...???
In other words in this situation [getting married] the public have this to say about buying a house.
Also accidentally left out the 要∶
那中国人我觉得结婚的时候一定要买房
一定要去长城
不到长城非好汉
如果你去北京一定要吃烤鸭
我新年了我[?]不吃了
因为用“千万”要感觉很危险你一定要做这个[??]
比如说"Pete是个骗子,你千万不要相信他”
这个说可以[?有]千万不要
我觉得找男朋友千万找老实的
不要花心的内中
千万不要找花心的
我一定要学好中文
我一定要赚很多钱
一定要听“请问”。。。当然
great Qing Wen.我很喜欢“花心”,哈哈

March 9, 2009 at 1:15 PM倒 ....to reverse
到.....to arrive.[Also looks like it forms part of (?the radical of ) 倒]
Yeah,I'd like lessons on the above suggestions as well as announcements at airports etc.Any other announcements. They're always harder to make it.Great to have the announcement authentic as in this lesson, but would like it if the sound level on the announcement was a bit louder.
