CTRL+ seems to change the size of stuff outside the section of the screen the characters are in.You can change screen resolution though.

raygo,

Yeah mate;I think they have improved. On my screen anyway they are quite large and clear.I think it may have come around the time of the cogwheel and the traditional support because partic for traditional characters Poddies like Calkins pointed out how difficult it was to read. Now the characters are probably a tad larger than this capital C,and in bold..quite clear for me anyway.IHTH :)

Actually;just measured for you mate.On my screen, the Capital C above is about 4-4.5mm and the height of the characters is about 6mm [+/- 5mm...kwx].

Can't find the comment someone left yesterday about not being able to get audio downloads/sample sentences even though they had 3G connection.I just tried the new app out in the wide world today and found the same.It seems it only works where there's a wifi connection to a network. Will this always be the case? Why is it so? Having audio and sample sentences at your fingertips wherever you can get 3G [which for me when I'm out and about is almost always going to be all I get] would at least double the usefulness of this app.I did find the dictionary very useful though today [which doesn't require a connection].So still awesome. :)

Ok,it took 25mins to install the app over a wifi connection and broadband. Not sure if that's normal for a 18.6 MB application or not as this is my first iPhone app to install. Then another couple of minutes for the flashcards to sync.BUT,definitely worth the wait.Much more likely to use the flashcards now.I'm wondering whether ,once you've downloaded the audio for a particular flashcard or expansion sentence,it needs to be downloaded again next time you use the app,or whether it's then permanently stored in the phone. The only potential improvements for the future I can see so far with the flashcards is that it would be nice to track your score in the same way that you can on the website here [and perhaps other management features...eg. delete a flashcard once you are confident with it;retest ones you got wrong first time around].Having the expansion sentences and the way you can navigate via any word in them is gold.Overall great job and thanks again.

paulinurus,

I agree;good idea. The more variety of exercises to try the better.I wouldn't have it as the default option [but as an option for the cogwheel as you say].Ordinarily I do try to listen first time around by clicking on the red arrow and averting my eyes from the Hanzi. But to look at the English and then try and figure out how you'd say that in Chinese would be a good exercise. The main drawback I would see from this would be that there is more than one way to skin a cat,and I imagine that even when you came out with a legitimate way to say something, another possibility would be on the audio.Still, that could be informative too.I haven't managed to get onto the activity stream, but perhaps what you're looking for may be to some extent covered by that.

Pete,

Classy way to finish a classy series.I too particularly liked the last line of this poem.He must have been some guy that Li Bai.The inclusion of the Irish clip was a nice touch,as have other East/West comparisons.I've greatly enjoyed the insights into Classical Chinese Poetry you've brought to us and the thought provoking discussions it has sparked.Thankyou.The only solace in this series coming to a close is the knowledge you're still with us on the boards and the hope of something more on the horizon. So hello future.Ganbei.
