The old 13:35 sounded like squid to me.Hopefully not someone having their 鱿鱼 炒'd,but rather something from further afield, perhaps from the deep... Bloop. You could call it a blooper.

go_manly,

Good work mate. Can I ask how you compiled that list? Was it by using the CPod search feature? This raises a lot of questions I think worthy of discussion.Who is Jun Da and is this the most authoritative list of the most frequently used characters? How does this compare to the most commonly used words, and is there a list for them? How many of the most commonly used words can one expect to know at each level? How does this compare with say the HSK? I certainly don't think lessons should be based around the characters, but continue to be useful topics as they have been, but also think it would be good to gradually slip these in so they're not missed, and get them ticked off.

changye,

Well that's a first on me.Thanks for that.Reminds me of the lesson on personal ads;长长的头发,白白的皮肤。So I take it reduplication counts as a double character. What if it had just been 长头发,白皮肤...would that have worked then without the 的 ?

changye,

Thanks mate.I was tempted to put the 的 there but wasn't sure.Well, there you go gaygo,we've both learnt something. ;)

阿拉伯 is an interesting word because it sounds somewhat like a transliteration, but the first 2 characters also both sound like and mean Allah. Is this a pun/killing 2 birds with one stone? Seems like an apt choice anyway.

Can one say?:

这是一个方便便利店。[for.. this is a very handy convenience store...I suppose even if it is correct it probably sounds a bit clumsy?]

The 起 in 买不起 makes me think of the English expression...unable to cough up the dough.

The supplementary vocab has 阿联酋as UAE [and mdbg concurs] but perakin has it as Saudia Arabia.I suppose this could be an example of perakin being plain wrong, but is there some confusion over this?

系列加油!! [Go series !!]

Looking forward to some insights from Changye in the东北中国 [East north=north east China] Hungry Traveller series.

Hey,thanks for the shoutout;boy was that unexpected.

Just checked out the new lesson sets tab.A big and welcome improvement I'd say.Great that they've been divided into academic levels and then also into mixed levels on theme but still in a broader academic level. The only thing which may need clarifying is,in the series,to clearly identify which lesson each is in the series i.e 1st,2nd ,etc.Maybe this could be done with lesson tags.I'm pretty sure the lessons are being listed in the order in which they are published but I just know that previously with some of the series there were some missing in the sets that had been made and it meant you had to go through the archive to make sure you weren't skipping any. Thanks for the upgrade.

Simonpatterson,

I have downloaded and played with study arcade and agree its a great app.I was disappointed that it limits me to 100 characters/facts a day,but maybe that's wise anyway [and after the initial excitement of playing with the new toy maybe I wouldn't do more than that anyway].Not sure if the payed version allows for more. The flashcard characters aren't nearly as large as the ones on the new CPod app,but on the other hand they do allow one to mark whether the character as easy, hard or inbetween. Also I liked having the multiple choice game. The only drawback of that though is that the distractors are pretty poor. That is,in virtually all cases, the distractors are so obviously wrong, that it's not much of a challenge. But it's a cool app in that you can add knowledge from other fields of learning also.Haven't checked out what else is available in that regards yet though. So thanks for the tip mate :)
