I kinda like these shoes:

但是,看起来不是时髦,因为expansion说:

现在没人穿这种大红大绿的衣服了,看起来好俗。

糟糕!!

bodawei,

I'm not sure I ever checked out the wei part of your name, but that sounds like great sport...very funny and thanks for sharing.hmm...I'd like to have a Chinese name open to such sport with pos/neg depending on the tones.Have to think about that one.

melbourne,

Sorry for being unclear.Actually, looking back now I see I wasn't referring to my first question.Rather I was referring to Pete's first answer [which I wrongly presumed was going in order...but I didn't check back]...which was in regards to the grammatical pattern where the verb is repeated.I felt Pete's answer cleared things up for me on the 呢 front quite nicely in this particular instance ,but agree that if there is not already a QW on it ,then it would be useful.

Pete,

Thanks for your explanations to my many questions.I have understood 呢 when used in contexts such as 你呢,but have known I need to look into this little character further to better understand it's usage.Your explanation on this front has been very helpful to that end.The only thing I may need to look into further is my first question, but I'm getting a bit of a feel for it.

Thanks paulinurus.I just hope others give me the benefit of the doubt if I were to accidentally use 小姐 which patrick0530 kindly reminded me [it was pointed out to me a few months ago on another thread here] can have a negative implication in that region [I think it's fine elsewhere....but am happy to be corrected].What do others feel about using this form of address to a Chinese person in general without knowing where they come from?

Woohoo/wushu.Thanks for listening to requests. Can't wait for SBTG.And another Lao Wang [pushed to the edge ] and new Program to boot.Sounds like another super week.I wonder how many will make an extra effort to extend themselves up into the media lesson.I can't say a show about Ponies sounds particularly inspiring, though it does have me intrigued. But I have great faith that if Jenny is involved it will be great.Actually if it's a kids show, involving kids stories then that will be great not only for me ,but also to share with my youngest. But of course, you're going to keep us guessing.Lesson suggestion thread is a great idea;thanks.

paulinurus,

You may consider "Wanna order some food, buddy?" as gutter, but to me it would depend on the tone it was said.I think it could be said in a disrespectful tone which may cause offense to some,or if you can imagine it being said in a very friendly tone, which I think is the point here, then it could be warm and real.Personally I would prefer the latter and would feel more at home/relaxed in such an atmosphere than being addressed in a really formal way in a posh snobby restaurant.I also think to bridge the cultural gap we have to try and understand it not from how we'd take such an address in a western setting, but by how it is viewed by the Chinese, and thus I think frederickrikers post above is very informative and to me makes sense.Rather than being a slight [which as I say seems to be judging it with western values] I think it speaks well for warm, genuine, friendly down to earth people. To me it makes the place more appealing.Of course that's just me.I may be wrong, but that's how I view it.
