You mean my first photo?
Personally,I wouldn't be telling Yao Ming that he looks like a girl, but hey, that's just me.

你真诚实,不过那个方法没有帮你为这个问题:
这个谁的女孩子?:
[you're really honest, but that method won't help you with this question: who's baby girl is this?:]

In reference to the computer pinching,I thought I'd post a youtube clip [hope you can use the proxy],which shows in the first minute how the pinch recipients view it:

Thanks for your comments on the phonetic components of the characters.I have scratched my head at times trying to work out how to recognise which part of the character is phonetic, but it seems the position in the character is variable so it's just a matter of recognising it once learnt.Does every character have a phonetic? Any tips or tricks to recognise them?
Very interesting discussion.Looking forward to the next episode where we can start to sink out teeth into the specifics.Great idea because I realise it's not only tone but pronunciation which lets me down at times, and that sometimes pinyin will only get you roughly in the ballpark, whereas you need to nail the precise pronunciation to be understood without hesitation.
Haven't read the article yet,but in a nutshell, why has Taiwan officially changed to Pinyin?
Changye,
I love your example:今天我du子teng. lol.
Thank goodness they didn't use the cyrillic alphabet for pinyin.I like a challenge but that would be a less enjoyable one I think.
